Thursday 24th September

Design across all industries mirrors societal trends, developments and challenges and reflects the themes of our time, banknote design being no different. The currency industry’s design concept is to design for maximum effectiveness of security features and thus protection against counterfeiting, for durability, for aesthetic symbols and messages, for commemorating national heritages. What is at the core of design in other industries? Can designers learn from each other? What are the general trends and developments that affect all industries? Sustainability is certainly among them. How can cash become even “greener”? When is a banknote or coin truly sustainable and what aspects must be taken into consideration when talking about sustainability? How can players in the industry work better together in order to reduce this footprint?

The program will centre around the following topics

What is the future role of cash as a public good in economies across the globe? Can societies afford to lose the specific characteristics of cash?

Innovation has been at the heart of the industry for decades. How do we as a currency industry continue to innovate to ensure that we’re operating in a sustainable way?

How will digitalisation increase the efficiency for both central banks and the commercial cash industry? And will a combination of cash and digital payments soon require a completely different approach to a digital currency cycle?

At the heart of the GLOBAL CURRENCY FORUM is The Hub. This is where the GLOBAL CURRENCY FORUM community comes to life: discussing and debating, networking, socialising, and ultimately forging lasting connections.

Bookending each day, PLENARY SESSIONS will set the tone and provide context, tackling the big trends, societal issues and industry challenges that we are facing now and those that we may go on to face in the future.

Multiple streams of BREAKOUT SESSIONS and technical workshops will give participants the opportunity to learn about the latest technologies and innovations, and to tailor the agenda exactly to their requirements.

Ultimately, all conversations gravitate towards The Hub. However, for more in-depth interactions or discreet discussions, there are ample PRIVATE MEETING SPACES available as part of the Partnership Packages.
